What is dried sage leaf? Salvia officinalis, also known as garden or common sage, is an aromatic plant in the mint family (Lamiaceae) that is grown for its strong, flavorful leaves. Native to the Mediterranean area, sage is used as a flavoring in various dishes, especially sausages and stuffings for pork and poultry. It may be used either fresh or dried. Other types are planted for their beautiful leaves and blooms, while others are also grown as ornamentals.
